ESL Curriculum
|
Our ESL department was set up in 2007. Its goal is to offer non-native speakers with the support they need to enter the mainstream primary school. Our courses aim to develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills so that the students will be able to not only survive in the mainsteam at a future date, but to succeed.
ESL support is provided either through an intensive, year-long course (for students with limited background in English) or they may participate in regular classes while receiving extra tutorials to help them cope with the demands of the mainstream curriculum.
In order to maintain balance, and achieve full integration into the Anglo school community, the ESL students will take some lessons (mother-tongue, PE, music and art) alongside their peers in the mainstream school. For students in the intensive programme, science and maths will be taught separately. More advanced students will take these lessons in the mainstream.
ESL assessment and support may be required following the entrance examination, or on recommendation from the mainstream English teacher. |
